Wholesale Success Stories: Ethical Coffee Supply, Training, Equipment, and Branding at the University of Surrey

In the summer of 2022, we were approached by a consultant working for the University of Surrey. After 14 years, university management had made the decision not to renew their agreement with Starbucks - instead bringing the ownership and day-to-day running of six cafes across campus in-house.

Our unique blend of impact-driven practices and operational excellence proved to be a hit, and in September we began a long-term partnership. Our coffee team worked closely with Jenny Kelly and the new cafe staff, ensuring we had the right styles of our outstanding coffee to go through their Mastrena bean to cup and La Mazocco espresso machines - the result was a brand-new roast, our Americas Espresso Blend, which is now one of our most popular options for cafés and home coffee enthusiasts alike. 

ONGOING COFFEE SUPPORT AND PERKS

Since then, we have provided support on myriad events at the university, with highlights including coffee masterclasses for students, recipe collaborations, and most recently an artistic reimaging of a seventh site, The Hub at Surrey Research Park. 

BESPOKE BRANDING LEADING TO A 30% UPLIFT IN COFFEE SALES 

When the university agreed to take over the management of The Hub at Surrey Research Park, we were invited to create a selection of infographics and art to adorn the walls of the café. 

The result was two feature walls, signage, and retail options, that together help customers understand the provenance and positive impact of our Responsibly Crafted Coffee. Together with a reinvented menu, The Hub has seen a 30% improvement in coffee sales in its first two months.
