Fresh Crop Is Landing
There is a lot happening behind the scenes at the roastery right now!
Large deliveries of fresh crop are arriving from Colombia, Guatemala, Kenya and Indonesia, alongside our Decaf, with a brand-new Ethiopian coffee due very soon. It’s an exciting point in the coffee calendar and a timely reminder that coffee is a seasonal, agricultural product.
Each origin follows its own harvest cycle, which means coffees become available at different points throughout the year. Rather than everything arriving at once, fresh crops come in waves, shaped by local growing seasons, rainfall, altitude and harvest timings.
That seasonality is a real benefit. Coffee is at its most vibrant when the crop is fresh, with clearer sweetness, brighter acidity and more expressive flavours. It allows us to work with each coffee when it is tasting its best and to showcase what makes every origin distinctive.
Moving from one harvest to the next takes plenty of work. Every new crop is carefully analysed, roasted and tasted before we make adjustments to the roast profile. Even when a coffee comes from the same producer, but changes in weather and growing conditions mean no two harvests are the same.
These crop cycles are part of the reason we now have our Uganda coffee. With El Salvador selling out faster than expected, the wait for its next crop created the perfect opportunity to introduce something new. That is where Uganda came in. With similar tasting notes, it was selected as a temporary coffee while we waited for El Salvador to return. However, the response has been so positive that we have decided to change our plans.
We are happy to share that Uganda has officially joined our core range and is also available on subscription.
What began as an opportunity to introduce a new origin has quickly become a coffee we could not say goodbye to... And don’t worry, El Salvador is still coming back, and when it does, Uganda will remain proudly alongside it.
