A bold, full-bodied dark roast with notes of rooibos tea, warming spice and soft tobacco. Rich, earthy and deeply distinctive, with a smooth finish.

PROFILE & PARTNERSHIP

We wanted a darker single origin with real depth: bold, full-bodied and rich, but still rooted in the character of one place.

This Mandheling marks two firsts for us: our first core-range coffee from Asia, and our first single-origin dark roast. Grown by smallholder farmers in North Sumatra, it brings together the region’s distinctive growing conditions, generations of local knowledge and the traditional wet-hulling process that helps give Sumatran coffee its unmistakable depth and character.

In the cup, this coffee offers notes of tobacco, warming spice and rooibos tea. It is bold, full-bodied and deeply characterful: a single-origin dark roast with real depth, a strong sense of place, and the story of the producers who continue to grow and harvest it with skill, care and pride.

ABOUT MANDHELING

Mandheling coffee has long been closely connected with North Sumatra, where coffee growing is woven into local communities, landscapes and traditions. The fertile highlands around Lake Toba provide ideal conditions for Arabica cultivation, while smallholder farmers continue to draw on a deep understanding of the land, climate and harvest to produce coffees with a bold and distinctive identity.

The name “Mandheling” comes from the Mandailing people, an ethnic group from North Sumatra whose identity became closely associated with the coffee grown in the region. Over time, Mandheling has become one of Sumatra’s most recognised and sought-after coffees, known for its full body, earthy complexity and rich, layered profile.
