What is a Discovery Coffee?

Last month you may have seen the launch of our new range of coffees, perfect for those who believe variety is the spice of life! Here’s a little more info about our Discovery Coffees and the Re-Cycle charity partnership.

A Discovery Coffee could be a new origin or region that we haven’t sourced from before, a new process or varietal, or something seasonal with a really unique flavour profile. The origin and coffee information other than the flavour and roast profile will be purposely hidden and you will only be able to find out where this coffee is from by scanning the QR code on the front of the bag (click here to find out how to do this).

We only have a limited supply of each new discovery coffee and each new coffee will only be available from the 1st until the last day of the month. Discovery Coffee Subscribers and people that sign-up to our newsletter will have first priority on this coffee so don't wait too long if you'd like to try something new!

As well as tasting A LOT of coffees over the last few months, we wanted to look at ways of providing support to farming communities during this difficult time. Chimney Fire Coffee will be donating 25p for every 250g bag or £1 for every 1kg bag of all Discovery Coffee sales to support Re-Cycle and help make it easier for people to get to work, school or other necessities. For every 28 kilos of coffee roasted, a single bike plus spare parts will be sent to Africa.

THE JULY DISCOVERY COFFEE

Our second discovery coffee brings not only a new origin for us, but also a completely new region. Here are three clues about this coffee:

  1. Geography: The country is made up of 18,307 islands, it covers a landmass that spans London to Tehran, and there are 700 languages spoken. It is also the 4th largest producer of coffee in the world.

  2. Profile: We’ve gone for an espresso roast this month with low acidity, a heavy body and lots of earthiness with dark cocoa, spice and whisky notes. If you like our Peru or are a big milk drinker then this could be a good one for you.

  3. Farm: This is another washed, high altitude coffee from a microlot. Microlots are special lots of coffee, selected for their high quality and unique flavour profiles. Visit our blog for more information about microlots.

This coffee will only be available in limited supply for the month of July

JUNE DISCOVERY COFFEE REVEALED: BURUNDI

Our first discovery coffee certainly proved to be a popular one with some great feedback and selling out within 7 days. We hinted that this was a microlot coffee, grown in a country about the size of Belgium and a filter roast with an almond, lavender and lime flavour profile. This coffee was of course from Burundi!
