ABOUT FINCA LOMA DE PAJA
Lomo de Paja is at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level, located in Chalchuapa, Santa Ana at the Cordón de Oro Cafetalero mountain range. The Ilamantepec region is a protected coffee growing region, similar to a DOC in French wine. These make up the best lands of El Salvador for growing this precious fruit.
Bourbon and Catimor varietals grow under the shade of Pepeto and Cuernavaca trees. There are many protected species of bird, which can be seen most afternoons, including beautiful white-throated magpies, as well as other animal species such as deer and huacalchíllas. These animals are found in few other areas today.
HISTORY OF COFFEE IN EL SALVADOR
El Salvador’s coffee industry has huge economic importance, with boom and bust cycles brought on by what Salvadorans refer to as ‘el grano de oro’ (the ‘grain of gold’). The climate, soil, and altitude are perfectly suited for coffee production, with farms typically found from 1000 - 2365m above sea level.
