PROFILE AND PARTNERSHIP

Our Natural Decaf is a smooth, easy-going Colombian coffee sourced directly from the same producer group as the Colombian coffee we use in our house blends. It’s selected for its sweetness and balance, then decaffeinated at origin using the sugarcane EA method.

The EA method uses ethyl acetate, a naturally occurring compound derived from sugarcane. The coffee is steamed to open the beans, then soaked in a solution of water and EA to draw out the caffeine before being steamed again and dried.

Because the coffee is decaffeinated in Colombia rather than shipped elsewhere for processing, it helps avoid unnecessary additional food miles. The result is a proper Colombian coffee with classic notes of chocolate and malt - just without the caffeine.

ABOUT POPAYAN RESERVE

This coffee comes from Popayán in Cauca, Colombia, a region known for high-altitude coffee and a climate shaped by the surrounding Andes. Grown at around 1,700 metres above sea level, coffees from this area are often naturally sweet, balanced and gently citrus-led.

We source this coffee directly through the same producer group behind the Colombian coffee used in our house blends. The programme works with around 75 growers, with long-term relationships and quality-based premiums paid above the market price. These relationships help encourage quality at farm level and provide a consistent, reliable coffee that works beautifully both in our blends and as our Natural Decaf.
